Once you have gathered all of the information needed to do the death notification, the second step is preparing to actually deliver the death notification. First, know the protocols or standard operating procedures in your jurisdiction. Second, gather as much information as possible about the Next of Kin and their location. This news may invoke a strong response from loved ones. Do they have any known medical issues? Have you responded to this location in the past? You may want to check with dispatch to find out if there have been any medical calls to the residence so you can be prepared with an ambulance on standby if necessary. Also, make sure your uniform or clothing is free from any bio hazard from the crime scene.
